Bonnie R. Janofsky is a native Angelino from a musical family. Her father played alto sax with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Xavier Cugat and the Dorsey Brothers. She began piano at age 9 followed by drums and arranging orchestration in college then into composition as well as conducting. Composer / arranger / conductor Bonnie Janofsky is a multi-faceted writer and performer. Her experience covers a broad range of styles and musical idioms. She is a highly regarded pianist and drummer in addition to her composing career. Her writing credits include compositions and arrangements for Jay Leno, the Tonight Show, films, jingles, live shows, vocalists, big bands and symphony orchestras from combos to large ensembles and from Dixieland to jazz to Latin to classical to pop. She has been featured in the Orient, Europe and throughout the U.S. Bonnie arranged, orchestrated and conducted on Young Sherlock Holmes, "A Hollywood Christmas", "Unsung Musicals III", "Paul Simon" and "Duets" (Alice Ripley & Emily Skinner) Varse Sarabande CD. She orchestrated for rock guitarist Steve Vai for a concert with the Rochester School of Music Symphony in New York. Her orchestrations have been broadcast on Turner Movie Classics. Miss Janofsky was the creator of the all-women big band, "Maiden Voyage". As leader and drummer / composer / arranger of her own big band, she has performed on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show", as well as on a big band weekend opposite Count Basie, Woody Herman, Harry James and Maynard Ferguson. Bonnie endorsed Slingerland Drums. Her biography appears in Who's Who in Entertainment, 1989-1990 and 1991-1992. She wrote a big band show for New York vocalist Simavi Uluc and composed music for Metrolink 1999 and 2000 Holiday Toy Express. Miss Janofsky is also an expert on Finale notation software and leads the monthly user group meetings, in addition to being highly proficient in Digital Performer sequencing software. Her professional affiliations include BMI, SCL, RMA, IAWM, LAWIM, NARAS and serving on the boards of the Musicians' Union, ASMAC as secretary, and the LAMG. Miss Janofsky participated in Earle Hagen=92s BMI Film Scoring Workshop and completed a Bachelors degree and graduate work in Music at CSULA. She studied composition with film/TV composer David Angel. Bonnie completed the USC Advanced Studies - Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program where she won the annual BMI Award. Bonnie was a composer in the Playwright-Composer Studio 2000 of the A.S.K. Theater Project. The Rough, a musical written with playwright and lyricist Archie Washington, had a reading in August, 2000 at the Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop. She is now composing for the musical Hollywoodland with book and lyrics by Alex Wexler. Her credits include scoring fifteen shorts and a feature, All That Jazz and will now score the feature, “Hair Trigger” plus the documentaries, “Queen of the Pins” and “America's Heart.” |
