Lorez Alexandria
The Essence of a Legend

A legend in the Jazz Genre, active from the 1950s, Delorez Alexandria Nelson is a sublime name for a preemininently smooth vocalist.  A Chicago native who graced the planet in 1929, she began singing as a child in church, nurturing the inflection and delivery with grace.  Her trademark phrasing was necessary for the jazz ballads and standards which she would later sing.  Ms. Alexandria began her singing career by doing club work in the Chicago area, accompanied by King Fleming and others.  In the late fifties, she recorded a half dozen albums for the Cincinnati, Ohio-based label of King Records.  Albums which are highly sought by collectors in tehir original LP vinyl format fill her lengthy discography which can be found, along with various career details, at the following web site: http://www.checkout.com/music/artist/discography/0,7647,356635,00.html
Ms. Alexandria's devotees are as longstanding as those of Sarah Vaughn.  She has performed with the finest of musicians, Gildo Mahones, Howard McGhee, Ramsey Lewis, Wynton Kelly and many others.  Several of her albums are to be soon released in the compact disc format.  Her sultry
songstylings leave one perplexed as to why she is not more renowned.

What is Los Angeles Music Week?
Los Angeles Music Week  (LAMW) is a seven day annual celebration of Los Angeles' multifaceted musical heritage, serving the entire city and county of Los Angeles.  Throughout the second to third week of each December, LAMW  showcases L.A.'s musical past and the many artists whose legendary contributions have impacted both this city and the world,  while building links to all Angelenos.  This  is accomplished through  performances, interviews,  student projects, performer showcases and special events, representing music of all genres,  held at  various locations.

LAMW's goals are to encourage legendary artists to teach
and mentor students, raise public awareness of the diverse musical genres performed in this great city, honor cultural diversity and encourage those who artistically educate our youth.   Every year,  LAMW coincides with the issue of the U.S. Postal Service's Commemorative Music Heritage Stamps, whereby framed enlargements are presented to honorees.   Rare cancellations with postmarks, true collector's items since 1996 ,  may only be purchased via LA Music Week.
