LOS ANGELES MUSIC WEEK
CELEBRATES THIRTEEN YEARS
OF SERVICE AND DEDICATION!

Will you place an AD in our Souvenir Journal?
Dare to make a positive impact in children's lives.

This brief is a combination of information for you...and action by you.  It can cost you a modest amount of money...but yield you a major amount of satisfaction, validation, and recognition.  Your positive response can assure opportunities for our children, recognize our honorees and simultaneously fulfill your own self-interest.

First, here is a brief background for your orientation.

Los Angeles Music Week (LAMW) is celebrating twelve years of operation. LAMW is a seven day celebration of L.A.'s incredibly rich and multifaceted musical heritage.  Throughout the first and second weeks of December, we annually honor and showcase our musical past and the many artists who have contributed and continue to contribute to that legacy.  Our goals are accomplished through performances, showcases, donations of instruments, resources and school supplies, interviews, student projects and special events to remedy the arts education deficit in our local schools, as clarified in our Archive of Honorees.  One of LAMW's major objectives is to encourage top name musicians to teach and mentor students.  We have assembled a cadre of legendary community artists who have committed themselves to raising public awareness of the many musical genres composed and performed in our great city.

Statement of Vision and Mission

The artistic mission of LAMW is to impart the historical, cultural and inherent values of the diverse array of music to local youths and citizens.  Through classes, concerts, and various events, our vision is to enrich students' skills, interests, career goals and crosscurricular, standards-based academic achievement, while enlightening the general population with the vitality and impact that Los Angeles' music history, and its many contributors, have upon the world.  Moreover, in our vision to honor these legendary contributors and encourage new talent, our aim is also to enable such diversified honorees to mentor students in musical instruction, while providing professional development for teachers as well as local artists, thereby fulfilling our motto, "An Instrument of Unity."  As the connections are made between these aritsts and the learning community, LAMW's goal of developing vibrant partnering networks enhances the boundless capacities that music represents, for music is the language of unity.

We are supported by the Mayor, City Council and individual donors.

In 2004, LAMW provided music instructors for 49th. Street School from our prestigious 2004 honorees.  In 2003, we donated $1000 each to Fair Avenue Elementary, 28th. Street Elementary, Trinity Elementary and Accelerated Charter School.  An organ was also donated to Fair Avenue Elementary School as well as $250.00 from Councilmember Wendy Grueul, while an $8000.00 drum set was donated to the Beyond the Bell Branch by Honoree Lloyd McCausland. Additionally, LAMW recommended several students for professional music and performance arts instruction under the tutelage of Honoree Evelyn Freeman Roberts.  In 2002, we donated 12 keyboards and three guitars to various schools.  Australian Pete Gellings sent $5,000.00 of beginning music books with instructional CDs to enrich the musical tutelage and evaluation of selected students.  Supreme Master Ching Hai gave her book "One World Through Music" to participating schoolchildren.  Bette Cox gave her book, entitled, "The Rise and Fall of Central Avenue," to all of the schools that were honored for their music libraries.  Remo, Inc. donated a drum set worth over $6,000.00 to Pacoima Middle School.   City Councilmembers donated $6,500.00 to all honored schools.

We will present musical awareness of every genre.  The Souvenir Journal will chronicle the citywide benefits of music enjoyed by our children in their schools.

We respectfully hope that you will choose to be one of our advertisers, or that you will make a donation.  The cost is minor.  Most of the advertising revenue will directly be applied to school fostered music programs.  But what's in it for you?  You will directly gain the recognition and appreciation of the children themselves, their schools and their families.  You will be reinforcing your own business' or organization's priorities by expanding the awareness of your contribution to our children's musical involvements and inclinations.

We encourage camera ready art as you would like it to appear in the program book.    The Souvenir Journal pages are each 8.5 x 11 inches.  All acknowledgements are limited to the company name, logo, slogan and the message to the honorees.  Please print neatly, or clearly type, your message as you would like it to appear in the Souvenir Journal, or you may e-mail your message to melamw@earthlink.net.   The price of acknowledgement is tax deductible as a charitable contribution.  A tax receipt will be mailed.  The annual deadline for submissions is mid-October.

Please make all checks payable to Los Angeles Music Week.  We are a 501(c)3 tax deductible organization.
